Tufts Medical Center

Vice President, Human Resources

Tufts Medical Center (TMC) is seeking an accomplished and strategic Vice President of Human Resources to lead the HR strategy for one of Boston’s most respected academic medical centers. The Vice President of Human Resources reports directly to the Tufts Medicine Chief Human Resources Officer and serves as the senior-most HR leader for TMC. This is an exciting time to join the organization as TMC continues to advance its mission and strategic priorities under the leadership of the new President, John Herman, who joined the organization in September 2025. The VPHR will play a critical role in partnering with executive leadership to shape workforce strategy, strengthen organizational culture, and ensure that human capital initiatives support the medical center’s continued growth, clinical excellence, and commitment to its employees and the communities it serves. Operating within a system-led HR model, the VPHR will leverage established Centers of Excellence (COEs) for key functional capabilities and resources, ensuring that enterprise programs are effectively translated and executed at the medical center level.

The ideal candidate will be a seasoned HR executive and trusted advisor to senior leaders—bringing the judgment, influence, and credibility required to guide complex leadership teams through change and growth. This leader will pair strong strategic insight with a disciplined focus on operational execution and service delivery, ensuring that HR programs, processes, and infrastructure are effectively implemented and consistently meet the needs of the organization. With energy and clarity, the VPHR will articulate and champion a compelling vision for the workforce at Tufts Medical Center while ensuring that vision translates into measurable outcomes across talent, culture, and performance. Working closely with the President and executive team, the VPHR will play a critical role in shaping the future of TMC by building and sustaining a high-performing, engaged, and mission-driven workforce, supported by responsive, efficient, and high-quality HR services. Critical to success will be the ability to build strong, collaborative relationships with system COE leaders, ensuring alignment, influence, and effective delivery of enterprise HR solutions in support of local priorities.
