Reporting to the System Chief Nursing Officer, the Vice President and Chief Nursing Officer (VP and CNO), Perioperative Services will work closely and collaboratively with the Perioperative Service Line (PSL) leaders to accelerate the continued development and growth of MedStar Health’s extraordinary clinical, educational and research enterprise related to perioperative service.
The VP and CNO serves as a highly visible leader and strong advocate for perioperative practice throughout the MedStar Health System and promotes a positive image, enhances nursing, medical staff and community relations while achieving a fully integrated, seamless and efficient perioperative service for MedStar Health. This position will ensure that quality care is delivered in a safe, convenient, timely and efficient manner; that quality guidelines and rules are properly enforced; and that regulatory functions are closely monitored.
The VP and CNO, Perioperative Services will oversee a perioperative enterprise that spans 16 operative sites and includes 196 operating suites/procedural rooms, 283 PACU beds, and over 1,791 staff FTEs. MedStar Health offers a wide range of general surgery procedures, with some robotically completed. Among the more than 75,000 hospital procedures (excludes ASC volume) performed each year are highly specialized cardiac, vascular, neurologic, orthopedic, Level 1 trauma, and adult and pediatric transplantation surgeries.
Compensation range is between $282,000 - $370,000 plus executive benefits.
PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS
• Graduate of an accredited Baccalaureate Program in Nursing and Master’s Degree in Nursing, Health Care Administration, Business Administration or closely related Health Care field required. DNP or PhD preferred.
• A minimum of 10 years progressive senior leadership experience in perioperative services in an academic medical center and/or complex health system is required.
• Licensed as a registered nurse or eligible for RN licensure in the District of Columbia and Maryland.
• Specialty certification from a nationally recognized nursing organization is required or must be obtained within one year of hire in either his/her clinical specialty or Nursing Administration.
• Broad expertise and acumen in all components of perioperative services strategy, leadership, design, structure, processes, delivery and outcomes.
• Ability to assess broad system wide needs, set priorities and implement major change and assume full accountability for results.
• Able to lead and achieve results in a highly complex and matrixed organization.
• Demonstrated financial acumen and business planning experience.
• Expert knowledge of the regulatory environment for perioperative practice.
• Participation, leadership in national perioperative nursing organizations is preferred.
• Aptitude for creative and innovative solutions.
• Strategic thinker yet operationally focused.
• High level of integrity.
• Previous experience in a Magnet- Pathway to Excellence designated organization(s) strongly preferred.
• Is a proven strategic thinker with problem solving and qualitative and quantitative analytical skills.
• Able to make difficult recommendations and decisions.
• Strongly values diversity.
• Excellent skills in persuasion, negotiation, communication, facilitation and collaborative problem-solving.
• Skilled in oral and written communications including oral presentations, public speaking and project report writing.
