Role Summary:
• Title: Manager, Derivatives & Technical Accounting
• Department: Accounting – Derivatives & Technical Accounting
• Reports to: Global Controller / Assistant Controller
• Team Scope: Lead and oversee the Derivatives & Technical Accounting team (1 Senior Analyst and 2 Analysts) while serving as the Company’s primary technical accounting expert
• Primary Focus: Oversight of derivative accounting, complex technical accounting matters, financial reporting compliance, and cross-functional partnership with Trading, Risk, FP&A, and executive leadership
Key Responsibilities:
• Provide leadership and direct supervision over the Derivatives & Technical Accounting department, including review of journal entries, internal controls, and quarterly disclosures
• Serve as the primary technical accounting resource for the Company, leading research, documentation, and implementation of new accounting standards and critical policies
• Assess and oversee accounting for commodity derivatives and complex trading transactions
• Review quarterly and annual financial statements and GAAP disclosure checklists to ensure compliance
• Prepare and present technical accounting position papers to senior leadership, including the CAO and CFO
• Partner closely with Trading, Risk, FP&A, and Finance teams to ensure accurate identification and reporting of derivative and other complex transactions
• Act as key liaison with external auditors to resolve accounting matters and maintain compliance
• Support the Assistant Controller and broader accounting leadership on financial reporting, intercompany transactions, and consolidations
• Lead staff development, mentoring, and departmental process improvements
Ideal Candidate Profile:
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
• Active Certified Public Accountant (CPA) required
• 8+ years of professional experience with prior senior management experience
• Big 4 or national public accounting firm experience at the Manager or Senior Manager level STRONGLY preferred
• Strong understanding of commodity derivatives and technical accounting
• Proven ability to research and document complex accounting topics and transactions
• Previous supervisory experience required
• Strong executive-level communication skills and ability to present technical matters clearly
• Growth-oriented mindset with interest in progressing into an Assistant Controller path
Compensation & Benefits:
• Target base compensation range of $150K–$165K + 20% bonus target (flexible based on experience)
