Compensation: USD 400,000.00 - 450,000.00 Yearly - Total compensation for this role consists of base salary, LAIP, LTIP, supplemental retirement plan, and a competitive benefits package.

The Opportunity

The Chief Philanthropy Officer (CPO), Shared Services serves as the senior philanthropic leader for Providence Shared Services, providing strategic direction, operational leadership, and fundraising expertise to advance enterprise-wide priorities, strategic initiatives, and organizational impact. Working closely with executive leaders, foundation partners, physicians, caregivers, volunteers, and community stakeholders, the CPO develops, executes, and enables a comprehensive philanthropy strategy that supports transformational system priorities, major capital initiatives, clinical excellence, research, innovation, workforce development, and community health programs. The leader fosters a culture of philanthropy throughout Providence, strengthening engagement among donors, leadership teams, and governance groups while elevating philanthropy as a strategic asset to the organization.

The CPO provides executive leadership and partnership across Providence’s network of foundations, ensuring alignment around fundraising goals, donor engagement strategies, stewardship practices, financial performance, governance, and operational excellence. The leader promotes collaboration and knowledge sharing across markets and foundations, driving best practices, innovation, and measurable results while honoring the unique community relationships and philanthropic priorities of each foundation.

The leader will also enhance donor engagement, philanthropic marketing and communications, campaign strategy, prospect development, and performance reporting to increase philanthropic investment and long-term sustainability across the enterprise. The CPO will serve as a trusted advisor to executive leadership, foundation boards, and key stakeholders, actively engaging them in fundraising efforts and philanthropic strategy. The leader will be responsible for building strong partnerships across Providence and creating an environment where philanthropy is integrated into strategic planning, innovation, and organizational growth initiatives.


Ideal Candidate

• Bachelor’s degree; advanced degree preferred.
• A minimum of 10 years of fundraising and/or operations experience, much of it leading a diverse staff, including management in all aspects of principal, major, planned, annual, capital, endowment, and event fundraising programs, preferably in a complex hospital system, academic medical center hospital, or children’s hospital setting.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (both verbal and written), required to build trust, gain respect, and develop meaningful relationships with donors and prospects, board members, administrators, volunteers, physicians, other caregivers and foundation staff.
• Unique capability as a team leader to attract, develop, and retain a cohesive and exceptionally high-caliber team, which when coupled with the appropriate organizational structure and operating systems, maximizes the effectiveness of raising money across the health system.
• Analytical and organizational skills required to evaluate existing programs, conceive and implement new programs/strategies, as well as resolve complex and/or sensitive operational and interpersonal issues.
• Proven success at working within complex integrated organizations to achieve internal consensus about the importance of philanthropy, resulting in collaborative efforts at fundraising.
• Project management experience or the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
• Excellent organizational and group facilitation skills.
• Excellent analytical skills.
• Ability to compile and disseminate diverse information.
• Experience with Microsoft Office Suite is required.
