POSITION DESCRIPTION: 

The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) will guide and direct all financial functions of Sky Lakes Medical Center including the financial strategy and financial operations. The CFO is responsible for financial reporting, capital investment and fundraising activities and external relationships with financial and ratings institutions. This leader will provide direct oversight to the Directors of Information Services, Revenue Cycle (Health Information Management, Patient Access, and Business Office), Financial Services, and Supply Chain. The CFO will function as a true strategic partner to the Chief Executive Officer and the leadership team.​

The CFO will define the financial vision and provide leadership to the finance team to accomplish outstanding customer service and proactive support for operational and strategic growth of the organization. By building strong relationships, fostering teamwork, and enhancing hospital-wide camaraderie, as well as serving as a role model for corporate accountability, compliance and business ethics, the CFO will drive business initiatives that achieve organizational goals and strategic plans. In collaboration with senior leadership, the CFO will continue to lead value-based initiatives to focus from volume to value and work toward redefining financial incentives toward reduced costs.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

As a member of the Senior Leadership Team at Sky Lakes, contribute to organizational direction and culture development in a collaborative, team-based approach. Provide strategic direction and vision. ​

Build and support an effective Finance Division leadership team capable of maintaining the financial health and stability of the organization as an independent health system serving the diverse needs of the region.  ​

Develops the annual financial budget and forecast that reflects the strategic and operational priorities of the health system.  ​

Identifies opportunities for strategic investment that support the growth and innovation of the health system consistent with strategic priorities and direction. ​

Develops financial projections to help determine the operating margin impact of strategic plans and potential growth opportunities. Analysis may include recommendations to add, expand, reduce, or eliminate services. ​

Procures funds and exercises general surveillance over the relationships with banks, investment bankers, bond rating agencies, and other financial institutions. Optimizes the cash management function utilizing strategic borrowing and financial ratios necessary to maintain a stable bond rating. ​

Stays abreast of industry trends and best practices, seeking to incorporate new ideas and strategies that advance financial improvements, and create opportunities for strategic investments into Sky Lakes. ​

Coordinates the development of the Information System’s Strategic Plan and sees to its successful implementation to advance the operational and strategic priorities of Sky Lakes.​

Provides direction for overall Revenue Cycle functions that includes the establishment of pricing policies, payor contract negotiations, billing and collection practices, patient access, and health information management. ​

Monitors financial performance against benchmark and internal performance targets throughout all business segments and actively engages with leaders across the health system to proactively develop plans to address areas of concern.  ​

Preparation and review of periodic reports outlining hospital’s financial position in all areas of assets, liabilities, income, and expenses. ​

Directs the creation and implementation of the capital planning process to ensure the effective and efficient deployment of limited resources consistent with strategic and operational priorities.  ​

Interprets government reporting requirements and fiscal regulatory changes to assess the impact on the organization and the development of appropriate responses to changes.  ​

Oversees the efficient and effective procurement of all supplies and resources needed to support the operational needs of the health system. ​

Directs the activities of Information Services to ensure a secure and stable information systems capable of meeting the complex operational needs of the health system.  ​

Ensures effective leadership, culture development, employee engagement and work performance of all departments and functions under the responsibility of this senior leadership position.  ​

Annual goals set in collaboration with CEO and Exec Leadership Team.  ​

Manage budget for assigned service lines. ​

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE: 

Years of increasing responsibility in financial management experience in the healthcare field. Prior experience as a Chief Financial Officer in a for-profit or not-for-profit large, complex or independent hospital, academic medical center or integrated delivery system would be preferred. ​

Experience in investment management, population health and clinical integration, quality and performance improvement, integrated information technology, joint ventures and mergers and acquisition, capitation, risk contracting, experience working with payers, and managed Medicaid contracting are critical to the role. ​

Experience in creating strategy and exerting influence in a broad operational function, with a focus on action and outcomes. ​

Experience making complex decisions, creative and innovative problem solving, delegating tasks and mentoring upcoming leaders. ​

Demonstrated organizational collaborative, savviness and leadership abilities. ​
