Tulane University School of Medicine seeks a seasoned, enterprise‑minded executive to serve as Vice President and Chief Business Officer (CBO) at a pivotal moment in the institution’s evolution. This is a rare opportunity to shape the financial and operational future of a nationally respected academic medical enterprise during a period of significant growth, partnership transformation, and strategic investment.

Reporting jointly to the Senior Vice President and Dean of the School of Medicine and the Senior Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of Tulane University, the CBO will serve as the School’s senior business leader and a core member of its executive leadership team. The role carries broad authority across finance, operations, strategy, facilities, and digital transformation, with direct responsibility for a ~$530M enterprise.

The Opportunity
The CBO will lead the development and execution of a sustainable, mission‑aligned business model that supports Tulane’s academic, research, and clinical ambitions. This includes stewardship of all financial operations; strategic planning and resource allocation; and oversight of key administrative and operational functions. A central focus of the role will be advancing the School’s evolving partnership with LCMC Health, including funds flow, performance management, and enterprise integration.

This executive will be expected to bring both rigor and pragmatism—balancing academic priorities, clinical economics, and institutional realities within a complex, matrixed environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide enterprise financial leadership across budgeting, forecasting, reporting, and long‑range financial planning.
  • Partner closely with the Dean and senior leaders to align resources with strategic priorities and growth initiatives.
  • Lead and develop high‑performing finance, operations, technology, and administrative teams.
  • Serve as the senior business executive for strategic partnerships, notably Tulane’s clinical affiliation with LCMC Health.
  • Oversee revenue cycle performance, capital planning, facilities, and major operational initiatives.
  • Bring financial discipline, analytics, and decision support to academic, clinical, and research leadership.

The Ideal Candidate
The successful candidate will be a proven financial and operational leader with experience in complex healthcare, academic medical center, or similarly matrixed environments. They will be comfortable operating at both strategic and tactical levels and capable of influencing senior stakeholders in faculty‑ and clinician‑driven cultures.

Qualifications typically include:
  • Senior leadership experience in finance and operations within healthcare, academic medicine, or a comparably complex enterprise.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead large budgets, develop sustainable financial models, and drive operational improvement.
  • Experience with funds flow and partnership structures in academic medical settings.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to translate financial concepts for non‑financial leaders.
  • A leadership style grounded in collaboration, credibility, and sound judgment.
