Korn Ferry has partnered with a well-established, Chambers ranked boutique Intellectual Property law firm based in Chicago on a search for a Biology Life Sciences Lateral Associate Attorney.

This is a wonderful opportunity to join a firm that offers a collaborative and relationship focused environment with substantial opportunities for growth. The successful candidate will be positioned to be a part of the firm’s partner succession planning when the current partner retires. No book of business is required.

Key Professional Requirements:
  • 3-5 years successful and strategic patent prosecution experience in biotechnology, pharmaceuticals and/or life sciences
  • Proven familiarity in protein and nucleic acid technologies, cell biology, antibodies, and bioinformatics is highly preferred
  • Proven experience working with academic institutions, startups, and mid-size biotech or pharma companies
  • Active membership in the Illinois State Bar or licensed in another state and qualified to sit for the Illinois State Bar
  • Admission to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO)

Key Educational Requirements:
  • JD degree
  • PhD (or equivalent advanced) degree in biology, biochemistry, molecular biology, or related life sciences field
  • Master's degree with substantial industry or research experience may also be considered

  • Strong executive presence with the proven ability in explaining the complex simply to wide audiences
  • Strong client management abilities and capacity to develop long-term relationships internally and externally
  • Strong customer service focus
  • Excellent organizational skills to proactively manage multiple projects and deadlines
  • Proven ability for progressively responsible leadership, demonstrating a growth in complexity, difficulty, and level of responsibility over time
  • Ambition, adaptability, and desire to develop professionally and into leadership responsibilities in the future
  • Proven ability and eagerness to maintain continuous professional development, industry and scientific advancements and legal trends in patent law

Compensation Range and Benefits:
  • Base compensation will be commensurate with experience, with an expected range of $205K-250K annually. Offers a comprehensive benefits package, paid time off, annual bonus(es), 401K, healthcare
