Compensation: USD 400,000.00 - 450,000.00 Yearly - Total compensation for this role consists of base salary, LAIP, LTIP, supplemental retirement plan, and a competitive benefits package.

The South Division is the largest of the three divisions within Providence, representing ~27% of the total operating revenue of Providence. 

The Opportunity

Position: Chief Philanthropy Officer, South Division

The Chief Philanthropy Officer (CPO), South Division serves as the senior philanthropic leader for the division, providing strategic direction, operational leadership, and fundraising expertise to advance the division’s mission, clinical priorities, and community impact. The CPO is accountable for cultivating philanthropic relationships, securing significant charitable investments, and aligning fundraising efforts with the division’s strategic objectives across California. 

Working closely with divisional executives, foundation leaders, physicians, caregivers, volunteers, and community partners, the CPO develops and executes a comprehensive philanthropy strategy that supports transformational initiatives, major capital priorities, clinical excellence, research, innovation, workforce development, and community health programs. The leader fosters a culture of philanthropy throughout the division, strengthening engagement among donors, leadership teams, and governance groups while elevating philanthropy as a strategic asset to the organization. 

The CPO provides executive oversight and partnership to affiliated foundations throughout the South Division, ensuring alignment around fundraising goals, donor engagement strategies, stewardship practices, financial performance, governance, and operational excellence. The leader promotes collaboration and knowledge sharing across foundations, driving best practices, innovation, and measurable results while preserving the unique relationships and community presence of each 
market. 

The Candidate

Ideal Qualifications 
Required qualifications/experience for this position include: 
  • Bachelor’s degree; advanced degree preferred. 
  • A minimum of 10 years of fundraising experience, much of it leading a diverse staff, including management in all aspects of principal, major, planned, annual, capital, endowment, and event fundraising programs, preferably in a complex hospital system, academic medical center hospital, or children’s hospital setting. 
  • Proven record of successfully increasing a fundraising organization’s performance, including execution of successful capital campaigns. This includes personal success at cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of principal gift prospects and donors. 
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (both verbal and written), require to build trust, gain respect, and develop meaningful relationships with donors and prospects, board members, administrators, volunteers, physicians, other caregivers and foundation staff. 
  • Unique capability as a team leader to attract, develop, and retain a cohesive and exceptionally high-caliber team, which when coupled with the appropriate organizational structure and operating systems, maximizes the effectiveness of raising money across the Southern California region. 
  • Analytical and organizational skills required to evaluate existing programs, conceive and implement new programs/strategies, as well as resolve complex and/or sensitive operational and interpersonal issues. 
  • Proven success at working within complex integrated organizations to achieve internal consensus about the importance of philanthropy, resulting in collaborative efforts at fundraising. 
  • Project management experience or the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously. 
  • Excellent organizational and group facilitation skills. 
  • Excellent analytical skills. 
  • Ability to compile and disseminate diverse information. 
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite is required.
