The Morsani College of Medicine (MCOM) of the University of South Florida (USF) is conducting a national search for an energetic, academic, clinical leader in rheumatology to serve as the Division Chief of Rheumatology within the Department of Internal Medicine.

The Division of Rheumatology encompasses all subspecialities of rheumatology, delivers care across multiple acute and ambulatory settings in the Tampa region, and is home to a nationally ranked fellowship program.

As Division Chief, the successful candidate will have accountability for the coordination of operations and outcomes of all clinical activities of Rheumatology faculty, fellows and staff located across at USF, Tampa General Hospital and VA locations. The Division Chief will be expected to bring improvement to clinical operations, especially patient access and referring physician satisfaction. The Division Chief will be responsible for working closely with leaders across the enterprise to continue enhancing the national reputation of rheumatology care provided in the region with thoughtful, innovative and collaborative approaches.

Key priorities for the next Division Chief also include faculty recruitment and development as well as contributing to the Division’s journey to a stronger academic culture. Division Chiefs in all Divisions have academic responsibility for mentorship of faculty across all locations, including advising on research, publications, promotion and tenure, and leadership in educational venues. Lastly, the Division Chief will be responsible for guiding a robust Rheumatology Fellowship program that sits at the intersection of education, research and clinical practice.

The ideal candidate will have a track record of clinical expertise in rheumatology – ideally in an academic setting across the missions of clinical care, research and education. Strong candidates will have demonstrated ability to work and interact with a diversity of individuals to create vision, lead programmatic initiatives and build consensus in a matrixed, academic environment. The ideal individual will have experience recruiting and retaining faculty and staff, ensuring that the academic and clinical activities of the Division of Rheumatology continue to bring value to USF Health and its many partners.

Qualified candidates possess a medical degree from an accredited institution with a demonstrated record of achievement in teaching, academic research, and service, as well as a current, unrestricted medical license in the State of Florida or be eligible for unrestricted medical licensure in the State of Florida. Candidates must be Board Certified in Internal Medicine/Rheumatology.
