Reporting directly to the Hospital President and Chief Executive Officer, the Chief Medical Officer oversees and maintains the integrity of medical quality and safety, as well as physician relations across the organization. The CMO is responsible for leading, implementing and educating the medical staff on evolving best practices for quality, safety, value-based care, patient experience and changes in healthcare models amidst a rapidly changing environment. Furthermore, the CMO will develop and maintain a cooperative working environment among hospital personnel and physicians and facilitate issue solution and education to further those goals. This individual serves as the primary leader interfacing with University of Maryland Medical System partners on systemwide efforts such as integration, risk, and clinical information management. In addition to leading the medical staff office, the clinical departments and local quality / patient safety teams, the CMO is also responsible for managing the Norton Transformation Office (performance improvement) focused on improving quality and safety through cultural transformation.
