Director, Houston Methodist Dr. Mary and Ron Neal Cancer Center

Houston Methodist, in partnership with Korn Ferry, invites nominations and expressions of interest for the position of Director, Houston Methodist Dr. Mary and Ron Neal Cancer Center.

Houston Methodist Hospital was founded in 1919 as a 30-bed hospital near downtown Houston. In 1951, the flagship hospital moved to its current location within the Texas Medical Center (TMC) and has been experiencing growth ever since. Houston Methodist has a reputation for outstanding care, treatments and research, attracting patients from Texas, the nation and around the world. For more than 100 years, Houston Methodist has provided the best — and safest — clinical care, advanced technology and patient experience. That is its promise of leading medicine. Recognizing its dedication to excellence, U.S. News & World Report has named Houston Methodist Hospital the Best Hospital in Texas for 13 years in a row and recognized it on the Honor Roll eight times. In addition, Houston Methodist is nationally ranked in 10 specialties, with eight specialties in the top 20, and three of those in the top 10. In 2004, Houston Methodist expanded its research and academic capabilities by establishing the Academic Institute (HMAI). The HMAI provides centralized research and educational initiatives and is affiliated with Weill Cornell Medical College and the Weill Cornell Graduate School of Medical Sciences of Cornell University.

The Houston Methodist Neal Cancer Center (HMNCC) is one of Houston Methodist’s six centers of excellence – emphasizing medical care, research and academics. Through pioneering research, individualized treatment plans and compassionate care, the Houston Methodist Neal Cancer Center is steadfast in its mission to eradicate cancer and support those who have it. HMNCC aims to pioneer cancer research, education, and community involvement, collaborating closely with vital local partners to address the diverse cancer needs of its regional communities. Harnessing the resources of its extensive network of eight cancer centers across greater Houston, its vision is to alleviate the burden of cancer by the application of cutting-edge research in tumor microenvironment, population science, systems immunotherapy, and community-driven initiatives.

Since 2010, the HMNCC has been led by Dr. Jenny Chang. Under her leadership, the cancer center has become a leader in cancer care, recognized and ranked No. 18 in the Nation for Cancer Care by U.S. News & World Report. Dr. Chang is preparing to entrust responsibilities to her successor, as she steps in to serve as the Chief Academic Officer for the Houston Methodist Academic Institute. A national search is underway, as the Center moves into its next transformative phase.

The next Director will lead and oversee the Cancer Center’s development as a destination for cancer research, education, and care nationally. Poised to continue its tradition in its comprehensive cancer care approach, and aiming to become an NCI-Designated Cancer Center, the responsibilities of the Director will be critical in providing executive leadership and enabling the center to achieve its strategic objectives. The Director will be a highly qualified scientist and administrator with leadership experience and expertise for establishing a vision for the Cancer Center, advancing scientific goals, fostering patient care excellence, and managing a complex organization. This individual will be a luminary in the field, deeply committed to bringing innovation and creativity to the task of curing cancer.

The next Director will hold a faculty appointment at Houston Methodist Academic Institute and Weill Cornell Medical College. The ideal candidate will have earned an MD, or MD/PhD; have experience with writing and supporting a Cancer Center Support Grant; and be eligible for licensure in the state of Texas.
