The Role

We are seeking an inspiring and visionary CEO to lead BESydney in driving its mission forward. Reporting to the Board of Directors and working closely with the NSW Government, particularly Destination NSW, the CEO will spearhead the acquisition of high-impact business events that enhance Sydney’s economic and strategic positioning. With oversight of a talented executive team, you will ensure BESydney continues to deliver world-class outcomes while fostering a culture of excellence, innovation, and resilience.

As CEO, you will shape and implement a strategic vision that enhances Sydney’s global competitiveness, ensuring that BESydney continues to lead in the business events sector. You will drive innovation to maintain Sydney’s reputation as a top destination, embedding the “Beyond Tourism” benefits of business events into government and industry practices.

You will develop and nurture high-level relationships across government and private sector stakeholders, creating strategic partnerships and securing investments to position Sydney as a leading global city for business events. In addition to working closely with Destination NSW, you will advocate for Sydney on the global stage, leveraging the city’s unique strengths and opportunities.

Your leadership will inspire a high-performing, multidisciplinary team, fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, and professional growth. With a focus on financial sustainability, you will work closely with the CFO to ensure operational excellence, while also championing brand development to position BESydney as a trusted global leader in business events.

About You

You have a proven track record of delivering results and bring extensive experience in senior leadership, ideally at the CEO or C-suite level, ideally with expertise in sectors such as tourism, hospitality, transport, or professional services. You have an ability to lead through complexity, driving strategic initiatives while balancing operational priorities. Your experience includes working effectively with boards and managing high-level public and private sector relationships.

You are a visionary leader who is highly adept at building partnerships and influencing decision-makers. With strong financial acumen, you understand the importance of innovation, risk management, and sustainable business practices. Resilient and self-aware, you have a passion for collaboration and the ability to inspire and motivate diverse stakeholders.
