Korn Ferry has partnered with Texas Children’s Hospital, a leading Texas pediatric hospital system, in search of their next Vice President of Nursing for their growing hospital in Austin, TX.
This executive leader will effectively lead nursing at Texas Children’s by creating an environment focused on the provision of safe patient care including adequate resources, training, systems integration and leadership. He/she will be responsible for the practice of nursing and assuring the delivery of safe, effective, and consistent nursing care across the system.
Qualifications:
- Current Texas Registered Nurse license, or willing to obtain.
- Master’s Degree in Nursing.
- Minimum 5 years of nursing management experience plus 3 years of acute care pediatric experience, preferably in an academic setting. Obstetrics experience preferred.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Ensures the delivery of safe, high quality clinical care and customer service through the collaborative development of appropriate standards of patient care and practice, policy and procedure development, and the development of a competency-based education program for the staff.
- Collaborates with key leadership to provide an environment focused on safety and quality for patients and their families.
- Develops, directs, and allocates financial resources to ensure adequate human and capital resources to meet patient care needs.
- Ensures the future of the organization through effective development, collaboration, and implementation of operational, clinical, and other key aspects of the strategic plan.
- Participates with governing body, management, medical staff and clinical leaders in the organization’s decision-making structures and process. Fosters effective working relationships with executive and medical leadership to ensure attainment of the key critical success factors for Texas Children’s.
- Develops organization-wide patient care programs (including the organization’s plan for providing nursing care and appropriate policies and procedures) to ensure that patients’ nursing care needs are assessed, evaluated, and met. Ensures that nursing standards of patient care and standards of nursing practice are consistent with current nursing research findings and nationally recognized professional standards.
- Implements ongoing performance improvement programs aimed at assessing, measuring, and improving the quality of nursing care delivered to patients.
Shared Accountabilities:
- Completes timely performance appraisals for direct reports.
- Assures that new staff attends hospital orientation within 30 days of employment.
- Assures that new staff attends departmental orientation within 30 days of employment.
- Reports financial performance on a monthly basis.
- Develops and modifies job descriptions as necessary.
- Prepares and submits annual capital and operating budgets.
- Conducts appropriate investigations and follows-up on individual and patient complaints.
- Submits performance planning documents, ongoing planning materials, action plans and department goals.
- Strives to achieve the goal of accreditation through the following: Ensures that the Joint Commission requirements specific to the department are fulfilled but also understand the linkage between the department’s requirements and those of the integrated delivery system. Collaborates with colleagues in other departments to ensure all Joint Commission requirements are met.
Knowledge and Skills:
- Knowledge of current nursing theories and concepts, and knowledge of current leadership, management, and quality improvement concepts.
- The ability to evaluate and improve the quality of nursing care, oversee staff development and physician relations, and demonstrate strong leadership qualities.
